Valve finally showed us the Steam Deck, the handheld console we’ve been waiting for for a long time to be announced yesterday. There are those who think this console won’t hold, and some who think it will sell millions in a short time. I’m definitely one of those who thinks it will hold, because a portable console where you can use your entire Steam library sounds really appealing.
The most interesting thing about Steam Deck is that it’s an open platform, and you can even delete SteamOS and install Windows if you want. Of course, this new SteamOs is optimized for Steam Deck’s hardware, so there will be a difference in performance, but ultimately we have that possibility. It is even possible to install a dual-boot system.
It’s great that steam deck can run non-Steam game stores, which means you can also play games you own through the Epic Games Store or GoG.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney also praised the move by rivals Valve, saying, “Valve; an impressive move! Arch Linux is a portable PC/console hybrid that uses the SteamOS fork, an open platform where users are free to install the software they want, including Windows and other stores.”
Valve doesn’t seem to be disappointed with steam machine this time.
