The number of Titanfall 2 players has made a big leap through apex legends and discounts. Respawn’s FPS game, released in 2016, showed a 750 percent increase in the number of players on Steam.
Titanfall 2 players hit record levels
The enormous increase in the number of Titalfall 2 players appears to have been driven by a 75 per cent discount that began on April 15. According to SteamDB, the discount increased the number of active players of the game by up to 650 percent in two days. Shortly afterwards, the game broke the all-time record of just under 17,000.

Titanfall 2 was released in 2016 but wasn’t added to Steam until last summer. The game’s previous all-time record for most simultaneous players was 13,603 shortly before it was added to the platform. This increase in the number of Titanfall 2 players seems likely influenced by the latest announcement of the new Apex Legends season, which refers to titanfall characters and the story. According to EA, the battle royale spin-off has more than 100 million players.
In the past period, discounts on the price of the game have led to smaller increases. The final discount exploded, resulting in a new record. The studio released the game at a challenging time, in part because it would have to compete directly with Call of Duty and Battlefield, but sales went pretty well. Still, Respawn’s 2017 sales figures were below the company’s expectations.
To support and develop Apex Legends, Respawn has previously said it is withdrawing plans for Titanfall games. Apex’s rapid growth and players’ interest in the battle royale genre seems to have negatively affected Titanfall.

Given apex’s success, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen’s statements in October 2019 that Respawn is unlikely to return to Titanfall 3 in the near future make even clearer sense.
“We really want the team to focus too much on Apex because we see there are so many opportunities there, so I can’t give you an idea of whether or when Titanfall 3 will come, but it’s still a great brand and I’ll definitely not forget it,” he said.
Respawn announced a second studio in Vancouver last summer, which apex legends said would focus on the development process. More recently, it was announced that the company was working on an original game under development. With Titanfall 2 at its peak, the developments are intriguing.
