In January of last year, Activision made a surprise decision to turn Vicarious Visions into Blizzard Entertainment’s support studio, and Vicarious Visions; 200 employees were fully committed to blizzard games and initiatives on hand.
At the end of last year, vicarious visions employees were told that the studio would also lose its name as a result of the merger with Blizzard, and that was the case. There’s no vicarious visions anymore because the merger with Blizzard is complete. The development team will now be stationed in Albany and will focus solely on Blizzard’s games. So now we can call themselves Blizzard Albany.
The team that developed highly successful games such as Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will no longer be in charge of their own games. That’s actually a sad development.
Vicarious Visions, acquired by Activision in 2005, was a highly successful studio that also supported big names such as Skylanders, Guitar Hero, Destiny and Call of Duty.
