Everything was ready for the continuation of the legendary game series, but there was no sequel. The company knows that the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 Remake project is eagerly awaited by the players, but they have not been able to find the team to do it.
Bad news for those waiting for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 Remake
Tony Hawk confirmed in a live broadcast that it is planned to continue in 2020 as Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 Remake, one of the most popular games in the series. However, he revealed that the project was completely dead after Activision’s decision to officially merge Vicarious Visions, the developer of the series, with Blizzard.
Hawk, the legend of the skateboarding world, had a long conversation with former Neversoft designer Andy Gentile, who also serves as a senior designer at THPS 1+2, about stopping the series’ Remake during a live broadcast. “The plan was as follows: Remake work was planned for 3 and 4 until the day THPS 1+2 was released. But then Vicarious was extinguished and other developers were called, and then the project was completely finished.”
According to Hawk, Activision was not affected by the offers it received from other developers for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games, so the project never materialized. The company didn’t trust anyone as much as they trusted Vicarious for the continuation of the series. “When things settle down, maybe the series will continue, because I never thought we would do THPS 1+2 in 20 years, but it happened,” Hawk concluded.
Vicarious Vision was founded in 1990 and was acquired by Activision in 2005. The company announced the merger of the development team with Blizzard in January 2021, just a few days after the release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2. With approximately 200 employees, Vicarious Vision officially became an employee of Blizzard. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 was the highest-rated game in the series to date, again achieving the series’ highest first-month sales.
