Ubisoft announced that it is developing a new Might & Magic AAA game with its job announcement . According to the ad, the game is being developed by Ubisoft Shangai studio.
The advert says it is looking for a Senior Brand Manager to work on “brand marketing and product marketability for the new Might & Magic AAA game.” “You will work under brand management and help rediscover one of the greatest fantasy series in the history of video games,” the ad said.
The release of the Might & Magic series dates back to 1986. The first game in the series, Might and Magic Book One: The Secret of the Inner Sanctum, was released that year for Apple II, Mac, MS-DOS, Commodore 64, NES MSX and PC Engine. New World Computing’s debut game, Might & Magic, led to the launch of a series that would mark the world of video gaming. New World Computing was acquired by 3DO in 1996.
In 2003, Ubisoft acquired the naming rights to the Might & Magic series for $1.3 million.
So far, 10 games have been played in the main series. The game I met with Might & Magic ;d 1991;d s Might and Magic III: Isles of Terra and was my favorite M&M game, along with Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven . But the games that came out after a certain number of them were not able to keep up with their old charm.
The last game to be released, 2014’s Might & Magic X: Legacy, was an extremely average (even mediocre) game. I don’t think it was good for the Might & Magic series to come up with a game like this after 12 years with the previous game.
Ubisoft’s use of the phrase “AAA” in the ad makes you wonder what the next game will be like. Hopefully they can get back to the origins of the series and take this unique RYO series back to where it deserves to be once again.
