I’ve been a FIFA patient for many years, and every year when August comes, I get a thrill. I keep asking myself questions like, “What’s new in the new FIFA?” At a recent press event, I had the opportunity to see both the new features included in FIFA 21 and to suppress some excitement by trying the game in person.
This year, the game uses the Frostbite game engine and has managed to take itself one step further with already good gameplay, new edits and new features. The first of the highlights is “Agile Dribbling”, which means that the player who controls the ball can control the ball faster with his feet, allowing him to play more easily to opposing players. I’d say it’s pretty easy to do. We can surprise the defense by making series touches using the R1/RB keys when moving the left analog key.
Another of my favorite features is the updated and improved rust system. Thanks to this system called “Creative Runs”, we are able to control the players that we pass through and who are under the control of artificial intelligence. But now most importantly, when we’re in control of the ball, we can lock on to the current player by pressing the L3/LSB and R3/RSB keys at the same time, and then when we pass, we still control the same player. So we can create a passing area for ourselves by running into the space we want without the ball. In order to request the ball back, we can also use the normal passing keys to get passes from artificial intelligence. Obviously I can say that although I struggled a little at first, after playing for a while it was quite useful and comfortable. I also have no doubt that players who use this feature well and well can give the opposing team a nightmare.
Another important innovation occurs when loading up on the opposing team. Our players, who were trying to hang behind the defenders and were under the control of artificial intelligence, sometimes ran behind their ridiculous defense and didn’t care if they were offside or not. Now, thanks to the updated AI system, they take care to avoid this type of behavior. I’d say it’s been significantly improved.
There are, of course, major updates in career mode, Volta mode and, most importantly, FIFA Ultimate Team, but I have to wait for the embargo to remain in place to be able to talk about them yet
I’ve tested FIFA 21 and my thoughts are that the best football game on the market already seems to have improved and improved
