Elden Ring is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games of the coming period. Interestingly, it’s a game that even those who don’t have much to do with Souls games are eager to play, and the hype level is quite high. From Software’s announcement yesterday that it was going to broadcast a 15-minute gameplay was exciting for everyone, and the 19-minute broadcast was a beauty.
In fact, we had received information about some new mechanics related to the game from both the previous trailer and Elden Ring’s website. This new video has both reinforced this information and added new ones.
You know, the biggest feature that sets Elden Ring apart from other Soulsborne games is that it will have an open world. Frankly, I love the map and progression structure of the Soulsborne series, so I don’t like this open-world thing. Open world means largely empty pieces of land on the one hand, and chore missions interspersed around for business most of the time. From Software has certainly struck a balance, but even in the gameplay video, the feeling of emptiness from the open world bothered me from time to time. So I’m a guy who’s used to being in danger in these games, having enemies walking around and having obvious locations, and enjoying the challenge. I didn’t like the fact that there were no enemies around while riding in the woods (and some other open parts afterwards) in the video.
For example, we passed the car, which was chained by two giants that we saw in the previous trailers, and the dead who followed us, and no one attacked us. Of course, they may be friends, but otherwise it’s not unaccustomed that they don’t show any aggression when we’ve gone so close. Still, the dragon mini boss we saw afterwards (which we’ve seen before) was welcome, these were random boss challenges that would come up in-game. Soulsborne is a bit faint compared to the well-known dragon bosses of games, but ultimately mini boss.
In such a big open world, of course, we would need a map. When we find map pieces in the game world, the world map we have will also be detailed, and we will be able to put signs and notes wherever we want on the map. The beacons we put in will lead us towards our goal in the form of a beam of light in the distance, just like in Breath of the Wild, making it difficult to get lost in the game world.
Another radical innovation in Elden Ring is the crafting system. Thanks to the plants we find on Earth, the fragments we collect from creatures and other materials, we will be able to produce items for ourselves. For example, in the video, our man was making arrows with the help of bones and feathers before an ambush. But if there’s going to be a material collection system that’s based on “looting” every creature like that, I’m afraid it’s going to slow down the tempo of the game, which will probably come into inventory automatically. Still, we’ll see if crafting mechanics fits a Soulsborne game.
The addition of “obfusction” to the game, so that in some parts you can move forward without even attracting the attention of enemies, means that we are waiting for a more merciful game. Ok, Sekiro, it was possible to go quietly, but the style of that game was very different, after all, playing ninja is different, tarnished is different. With the help of privacy, it seems that it will be even easier to walk around in open spaces, for the best.
We knew beforehand that we could summon spirit in the game and we saw different examples of this in the video. We use it with a classic Soulsborne animation, and in the first part we saw a group of five souls called, and the boss at the end; It’s interesting to be able to summon the spirits of the enemies we kill to help in this way, especially in boss combat, which has served as a very solid tank. We don’t know yet whether the use of these spirits is unlimited or if they disappear when they are used. If there is no usage limit in battles, there will still be a mechanic to make the game easier.
One-stroke kills such as throwing backstabs, post-parry ripostes, riding above the enemy from above are also present in Elden Ring, along with that much-loved sound and slight slow-motion effect. We also remember the door-opening effect from the first video, where such animations are shouting Dark Souls.
At the end of the video, we see demigod Godrick the Golden, the ruler of Stormveil castle, one of the main bosses in the game. I think the intro and the boss’s design are outstanding. Powered by a dragon lineage, this friend also has a wide range of attacks, and I quite liked the variety of their attacks. It’s going to be a classic Souls boss; it’s probably going to be a battle of two (or more) phases. The flare-up of the dragon’s head on his arm seemed to indicate phase two.
There were many details like these in the trailer, such as the speaking boiler NPC; We saw that our daughter’s name was Melina, which would help us on this journey, and we got to know her a little better. We found that with our horse we were able to cross vertical slopes with the help of spirits. We saw the lion of the Lannister household once again on godrick’s axe at the end, and we thought it was a George R.R. Martin easter egg. Now, as we get bored, we open this video, we open it, we watch it, and we discover new details, and I say, 🙂
