Last night’s PlayStation Showcase met expectations. On the one hand, new game announcements have come in, and on the other hand, new shares have been made about the games that we have been waiting for some time. For many, god of war ragnarök was at the top of this list. We were just looking back at a few screenshots from the day it was announced, finally a trailer was shared, and we were like:
God of War, released in 2018, was a great game. So it’s not easy to get on top of him, of course. Naturally, this sequel gives the impression that at first glance we will play the same game, at least that’s the way it feels to me. Frankly, for myself, it’s not something I’d complain about, I’m very happy with the way I am 🙂
In the meantime, it’s worth sharing a note from last night’s information; Cory Barlog, the director of the previous play, transferred the task to another name; Eric Williams was the director for Ragnarök. Eric Williams joined the Santa Monica team in 2004 and has appeared in every God of War game since. Therefore, it can be said that he has a great deal of experience, not a stranger to the series. Still, we wonder what kind of performance we’ll see after Cory Barlog.
Of course, the real difference is expected to be in the story section. This first trailer and some shared information also offer clues as to what kind of adventure awaits us. From this point on, the spoiler part of the article begins, let me give my legal notice , our readers who do not want to eat spoilers can jump directly into the last paragraph or switch to another news at this point 🙂
Ragnarök; a few years after the previous game. Fimbulwinter, the legendary winter of Nors Mythology, is at the door, informing us of the great apocalypse. So, the battle between Kratos and Atreus has become more difficult.
At the end of the first game, Atreus learned that he was a descendant of giants and his alias was Loki, and the players will remember. This makes him one of the most important figures in Nors Mythology. Kratos has learned from his past experiences and strives to keep Atreus out of this insurmountable spiral of ‘The Battle of the Gods’. But, of course, Atreus has no intention of waiting in such a good corner. One way or another, the two of us will influence not only their own destiny, but the fate of the Nine Realms. It’s what the two of us did that brought Fimbulwinter in time.
We know two of the names waiting for us on the other side of the conflict, and we saw them in the trailer: Freya and Thor. The source of Freya’s anger is that in the first game, we broke the neck of her beloved son Baldur and took his life. And he’s looking for revenge. We could see a little bit in the trailer how his eye turned.
Another name that’s angry, of course, is Thor. Thor didn’t pity his sons Magni and Modi either (Baldur and Thor’s half-brother, by the way, killed both god’s sons and half-brothers Kratos and Atreus, so he wouldn’t go crazy and :)). Thor and the charming Mjölnir, who we could see with a little effort in the first game, were also in last night’s trailer. We can imagine what a formidable opponent he’ll be, but I’d like to see him do something decent, to be honest.
In the trailer, we also saw different enemies, the battle scenes that we are accustomed to; Our dear companion Mimir from the first game, as were our famous twin dwarfs Brok and Sindri. Towards the end of the trailer, we came across a name that could be a new ally: Tyr.
Another important figure in northern mythologies, Tyr, god of war, victory, justice. He becomes the character who gives his name from the days of the week to Tuesday (Tuesday = Týsdagr = Tyr day). Only in the trailer, both hands were in place, so it’s not that I didn’t hesitate for a moment to say “are we talking about Tyr as we know it”, since in mythological texts Tyr is depicted as one-handed and blind. But of course, when I think of the story of him losing his hand, I thought we might not have reached those points yet, and my hesitation faded away:) Who knows, maybe we’ll come across a scene with Fenrir in the play:) Let me share one last note, tyr is one of Thor’s half-brothers. The half-brothers are going to keep coming together, and I think they’re going to 🙂
In the new game, we will be able to go to the lands we couldn’t go to in the previous game: Vanaheim, Svartalfheim and Asgard; we will also visit new venues in the lands of the previous game. So we can say that a much larger map is waiting for us to be visited and seen and discovered.
I’ve gone long enough, so let’s wrap it up. Last night they stole a finger of honey from our mouths and released us into the lap of an uncertain wait, there’s still no release date. But I hope he won’t keep us waiting any longer and will come in the first half of 2022. We are looking forward to it, we are following it very closely.
