The tournament will continue with a double-elimination group of eight teams, following group matches in the GSL format. The teams were first divided into four draw bags based on their final ranking in the Challengers events and the strength of their region.
Group A – Paper Rex, Edward Gaming, Leviatán, Team Liquid
Group B – Optic Gaming, BOOM Esports, ZETA DIVISION, LOUD
Group C – FPX, KRU Esports, XSET, XERXIA
Group D – DRX, FURIA Esports, FNATIC, 100 Thieves
In the group stage, the teams will compete in four-team double-elimination groups, with two winners of each group. In the first round matches of each group, the teams in pot 1 will face the teams in pot 4 and the teams in pot 2 will face the teams in pot 3.
After the group stage, random draws will be drawn for the knockout stage. The four teams that rise from their groups to the first place will be randomly matched with the undetermined runners-up of the other groups. After that, the teams will play in an eight-team qualifying group, and the first place teams will compete in the first round with the second place teams. In a previous announcement, it was stated that Champions Istanbul would start on September 2. The start date has been brought forward to be August 31 so that the tournament format can be implemented.
