If you’re into the game world, I’m sure you’ve heard the name Troy Baker. Troy Baker, who brought many characters to life with both his voice and his mocap works in the productions we played, participated in an interview at Milan Games Week. In this interview, Baker also touched on some unknown points about Last of Us , in which he portrayed the character of Joel, and explained how his view of the game changed after he became a parent.
Troy Baker’s remarks on Last of Us
Asked in an interview if he would make the same decisions as Joel at the end of the first game, Baker replied: “When I was shooting the first game, I was at a disadvantage compared to Neil [Druckmann] because Neil was a father. I was acting. It was a very real possibility for her what she would look like if she lost her daughter.”
“I had a son and I don’t know what I’d look like if I lost him,” Baker said. “But I know I would have done anything if I had the opportunity to save him. I would do anything to save him. People ask me why Joel did this when he could have saved the world, and my answer to them was always: Joel saved it, he saved his world. Only her world was that girl and that’s it.”
In the same interview, he also revealed that some elements of the game, such as Joel’s desire to be a singer and Ellie’s longing to become an astronaut, came from the conversations he and Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie, had with Druckman on set.
Baker also mentioned that he wanted to work on a Daredevil play; “I’ve said this a lot, I’m a big Daredevil fan. What Charlie Cox did for the show was incredible, and I had the opportunity to talk to him about it. I told him what the performance of Daredevil meant. Either I want to play Matt Murdock in a game or I want to direct the game.”
