Beamdog, which recently announced its first original IPs, MythForce, is still the subject of a buy today. Beamdog is preparing to enter aspyr, Aspyr said in a statement.
Founded in 2009 by former BioWare employees Trent Oster and Cameron Tofer, Beamdog was known for enhanced edition versions of classic YO’s such as Baldur’s Gate and Planescape: Torment; Now they are preparing to face gamers with an IP of their own.
Aspyr is actually a company that develops new versions of old games, ports of some games for different systems; Star Wars Episode 1 Racer, Star Wars: Jedi Knight II, Republic Comando are the first examples that come to mind. We know they’re working on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake right now.
Therefore, the coming together of such a duo naturally brings to mind the remakes. But of course, they may also be focusing on new games — which Beamdog CEO Trent Oster’s statements about this acquisition point to in a sense.
Oster; “This acquisition will open the door to many exciting opportunities for us” while “As the Beamdog team, we can focus on developing those amazing games that we want to play our talent, effort and imagination without ignoring our fans’ favorite RSOs. Beamdog’s first original IP will also be a fun start to the new era of our studio.”
Aspyr CEO Ted Staloch said: “We are very sorry. “I look forward to seeing the Beamdog team’s performance in achieving the long-term potential of the incredible classic game archive to the highest possible point while fulfilling their dreams with MythForce,” he said, leaving the door ajar for remakes of classic games in a sense.
Aspyr is part of Saber Interactive and Saber Interactive is under embracer group, one of the giants of the gaming world. However, it has been underlined that Beamdog will continue to work as an independent studio within Aspyr.
