From the outside, Endless, who paints a rather strange and unusual family portrait, are the children of Time and Eternal Night, the two things before everything else, and they communicate and exist among themselves within the framework of certain customs. Each of them contains both itself and its opposite of the concept it represents, and it is actually itself, as in the Life/Death binary of these concepts. Let’s take a closer look at them, as if they were already absent at every moment of our lives.
Destiny
Fate, the oldest of the brothers, is reminiscent of a hooded monk who walks around with a book in which EVERYTHING is written in his hand, blinded but seeing. Although he is the eldest of the siblings, he is not very involved in matters among the others, because he already knows the beginning and the end of the business. He is cold and distant, rarely expresses an opinion about things. He usually wanders through the endless gardens of his labyrinthine land and reads the book in his hand (which is also its symbol). But in this world there are some situations that even fate cannot dominate, secrets that it does not know, and in those cases fate itself cannot predict the fate of events.
Death
The friendliest (!) of the siblings is by far Death. She has the appearance of a young, lively and attractive gothic girl in accordance with the period in which she was written, and wears her symbol, Ankh, like a necklace. He doesn’t like long ceremonies and glamorous invitations, so he gets bored of them. Because in the end, the point reached is always the same. Whether we are kings or beggars, we will all see Death twice in our lives, no more. He gets along best with Dream and gives him all kinds of support when he asks for help. He is everywhere at every moment and although his own land is not often described, he is referred to as the “Light at the End of the Tunnel” in some places. He approaches people with care and affection, and even chats with those who are close to the end of their lives, sometimes to share their loneliness. Even the universe we live in will one day bow to it, and it will turn the chairs upside down and turn off the lights when the inevitable end comes. Because even the universe is born alone and dies alone in the cycle of existence.
Dream
The protagonist (or anti-hero) of the comic book series, Sandman symbolizes dreams and the reality that holds them firmly between his teeth. The sand sprinkled on the eyes of the sleepers causes us to have dreams or nightmares and brings us to Dreaming, his land. After years of captivity, Morpheus changed, his heart hardened, he became more snob, more pessimistic. He considers himself superior to most beings, and this is often true. Although the infinites are forbidden to interfere in the affairs of mortals, Morpheus and his brothers often violate this prohibition. For example, Cain and Abel do not give Death and take them under his protection, Dream and fall in love with mortals, and the end of these love adventures never ends well. Her pale-skinned sullen face is complemented by her dark intricate hair, black robe and twin stars occasionally sparkling in her eyes resembling two black holes, symbolic of which is the battle helmet. But after his liberation from captivity, the Dream begins to change, and this process of change and self-knowledge is the main story behind all of Sandman’s stories.
Destruction
When you think of destruction, you should not immediately think of violence, but rather like the movement of nature, the destruction of the old to make room for something new. The great slaughter, the destruction with the muscles and the orange beard, abandoned its own land and responsibilities centuries ago and chose the path of appearing only when necessary and helping people and their brothers. Of course, the concept did not disappear because he left, the destruction and the transformation that came with it did not stop, only Destruction itself chose not to be involved in these processes. Although he is the 4th brother, it is up to him to be a big brother to the others. He is extremely mature and has the widest perspective and knowledge of what the true contents of the Eternals are. Its symbol is a sword, and just as a sword opens new paths in the forest, it is the embodiment of constant change and energy.
Desire
Ambition only asks for and obtains. He can change his face as he pleases at that moment, whether he is a woman, a man, a couple of sexes or a gender. He lives in the heart of a gigantic statue of himself called the threshold, and because he is the epitome of desire, he constantly interferes in people’s lives and enjoys the situations they fall into. Ihtiras, who is the most prone to misfortune among the brothers and is quite at odds with Düş, brings him into a plot and kills a distant relative and causes all kinds of troubles to be opened for Düş in the long run. The symbol of glass is a heart.
Despair (Despair)
Desparir lives in a gray world in a bottomless nothingness, his land is full of mirrors, and those who look in those mirrors see Despair itself in their reflections. His symbol is the hook he uses to throw a nail on his own skin, and the body he tortures is always obese, ugly, filthy. It once died and re-existed, because despair always involves a commitment to life and hope. Of the siblings, Desire gets along the most, because the two reflect our intricate feelings that we don’t want to face, and the more we ignore the black ambition and revelation holes we fall into, the deeper we sink to the bottom. But acknowledging our darkness is also the first step toward light.
Delirium (Delirium)
Who exactly can describe it? Delirium, who has the appearance of a lively and lively young girl, can constantly change her hair according to her mood and her world resembles a surrealist painting where colors, complex writing, thousands of emotions and moments are intertwined. Even in the book of fate, it is not explained why she once went from Delight (Joy) to Delirium. His powers can drive one insane, they can also grant clarity to someone who has moved his mind. He is like the wicked little brother of the family, but sometimes an ancient wisdom emerges from under his childishness that can look at the deepest of events at unexpected moments. In their quest for Dream and Destruction, we follow the brothers to understand and respect each other better, but always Delirium is much more prevalent in the flexible rake of thoughts and the extremes they can go to. Its symbol is a colorful auger shape, resembling a candy.
