The long-standing chip shortage continues to profoundly affect the technology and gaming industry. Due to the scarcity, game consoles, video cards and more technological parts are produced in limited numbers. This makes it difficult for users to access these parts.
The Xbox chief financial officer said the shortage, which affects console production and sales, will continue throughout 2022 and that a new system won’t be available until 2023.
During an investor meeting this week, Xbox CFO Tim Stuart said: “The supply issue will continue to drastically throughout 2022, and especially during the holiday season. One of the issues affecting Xbox and other consoles is limited parts.”
Microsoft, on the other hand, continues not to disclose Xbox console sales figures. However, the Series X|S console family is said to have consistently sold more than the PlayStation 5 in the US. This shows that Microsoft is less affected by supply problems than Sony. However, Sony foresees a big increase in PS5 sales in the future. This shows that the supply chain problem will be alleviated on the Sony side.
PS5 had previously exceeded 20 million units sold. Sony announced that a significant increase in production would take place to meet the demand for consoles.
