DirectStorage technology is now available for companies developing games on the PC platform, enabling features such as Loading Times on next-generation Xbox consoles and Quick Resume, which allows gamers to instantly return to recording different games on the dashboard. PC games will be able to take advantage of this technology from today.
What is DirectStorage technology?
DirectStorage technology developed by Microsoft allows large amounts of compressed data on the SSD to flow directly to the GPU without forcing the CPU to open it. According to Microsoft, the transition of this technology to PC us is usingling the speed of the latest storage devices, uslaying a new era for fast loading times and detailed worlds in PC games.
One of the first games to benefit from this technology is the recently postponed Forspoken. At the Game Developers Conference event at the end of March, developer Luminous Productions is scheduled to give a talk about how they plan to apply the technology to the game. On the other hand, it will take some time for players to see the technology in practice, as the game will not be released until October.
Although DirectStorage is compatible with Windows 10, Microsoft recommends that players upgrade to Windows 11 for better optimization.
